PolymicroTechnologies nanocapillary product line conduit inner diameter (ID) in the range of 200 to 000 nanometers (0.2 to 1.0 micron). Conventional capillary products have an internal diameter of not less than 1 micron. Before nanocapillary developed for scientific, industrial and medical sector, the main choice of less than 1 micron diameter of the substrate comprises wet etching or ion milling, the cost of the two technologies are very expensive, relatively difficult to use.
According to Joe Macomber, Molex Separation Science Product Manager, “PolymicroTechnologies®'s capillaries are built on industry-leading features that enable cost-effective, high-performance capillary products in sizes less than 1 micron. These capillaries have proven to be package integrity. And the leak test substrate also has the potential for single molecule research and analysis. SEM verification ensures diameter control."
Synthetic fused silica has a mirror-like smooth inner surface for stable flow of liquids and gases. The metal ion content of the material is low, making the inner surface inert, facilitating efficient fracture or cutting operations and achieving custom pipe lengths. In addition, the polyimide coating on the outside of the pipe provides excellent wear resistance during handling and use, allowing the pipe to be used at temperatures from -65oC to +350oC.
Relevant scientific applications include analytical chemistry, chromatography, nanofluidics, direct inlet monitoring, sensing based on evanescent wave absorption, and coaxial optics and fluidic components. Industrial applications include shell leak testing, evaporative cooling systems, petroleum analysis, and catalytic research. Medical applications include drug delivery, flow control systems, clinical and diagnostic devices, and wearable drug delivery devices.
