New application for solid-state lighting calls for high luminous efficiency LEDs


As general-purpose lighting and high-power applications become more and more important, suppliers are introducing new LED products with higher luminous efficiency, light attenuation and lower energy consumption. The large-scale shift to high-efficiency environmentally friendly lighting has provided valuable power to the LED industry. Solid-state lighting applications are driving steady growth in LED production while slowly reducing the market share of traditional lighting sources.

Compared with fluorescent and incandescent lamps, LED lamps for general lighting applications have lower power requirements and higher luminous intensity, but their production costs are higher. Suppliers in Hong Kong and Taiwan have made cost reduction a top priority. At the same time, continuous improvement of light source efficiency, in addition to enhanced heat dissipation, high-throughput performance and color rendering index (CRI) values ​​are also the focus of research and development.


Taiwanese manufacturer Weixin Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. is launching more products for general lighting, for industrial areas such as streetlights, oversized spotlights and tunnel lights, as well as commercial areas such as channel letter signs and billboard lighting. Its LQ220WS1 series of LED street lights have a color temperature of 5,000~6,500K, using copper heat pipes and aluminum radiators. The series includes models such as 60W, 90W, 120W and 150W.

Using integrated LED technology, Hailier Co., Ltd. in Taiwan can produce AC-driven LEDI-LEDs, which integrate multiple units into a single chip. Unlike DC-driven LEDs, I-LEDs can use low-voltage AC/DC power supplies (12V, 24V, or 48V) and high-voltage AC power supplies (120VAC or 240VAC). With these features, I-LEDs are suitable for automotive or MR16/G4-compatible lighting applications, as well as general lighting applications.

Henderson Asia Ltd. manager Anthony Chan said that the company is the first company in Hong Kong to produce LEDs for general lighting. It is said that its LED lights can save up to 95%. Among them, the products with power consumption of 1W, 3W and 6W are the best, and their lighting effects are equivalent to 30W, 60W and 100W incandescent lamps. These energy-efficient lighting systems (EEL) are tubular in design and can easily replace ordinary CCFL tubes. In addition, the company also produces LED tubes consisting of 5mm LEDs of different colors, suitable for wardrobes, bookcases and exhibition stands.

Shenzhen Sunni Solar Technology Co., Ltd. launched a linear LED lamp for general lighting in Q4 2008. LED and LED line lights are the company's main products. For example, the SN-PL8/24 is a 2-foot linear lamp consisting of 171 wide-angle LEDs. It uses a T8-G13 lamp holder with an operating voltage of 85~268VAC50/60Hz, a luminous flux of 560lm and an output power of 8W. The SN-PL8/24 also has a 4-foot version of the SN-PL8/48, which consists of 300 LEDs with a luminous flux of 1,050 lm and an output power of 15W. Both LEDs can be used with T5 sockets in a transparent PC tube package.

New product development goal: 100lm/W luminous efficiency

The rapid development of optoelectronic technology has created conditions for suppliers to maximize the luminous efficiency of LEDs. Some Taiwanese companies have indicated that they are cooperating with scientific research institutions to develop products and actively use more advanced new technologies.

Qiqi Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. cooperates with Taiwan Semiconductor Lighting Industry Promotion Association to develop white LEDs with luminous efficiency up to 100lm/W, and hopes to launch 80lm/W products in the near future. The current standard model of Qihao Optoelectronics is 75lm/WLED. In addition, it also produces 5W and 10W LEDs in COB packages, which have lower thermal resistance than leadframes and are more suitable for high power applications.

Weixin Optoelectronics cooperated with the Institute of Electronics and Optoelectronics of Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute and East China Normal University to develop new products. The company's goal is also 100lm / W LED products. Weixin Optoelectronics currently produces LED luminous efficiencies ranging from 80 lm/W to 90 lm/W.

The core technology of Heili is transferred from the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute. The company said it is actively developing AC-driven LEDs and LEDs with high CRI values. The company's CRI value has been increased to more than 85%, the product is suitable for commercial and display lighting.

Following the Asian industry, manufacturers in mainland China can also provide LED lamps with luminous efficiencies as high as 70 lm/W. The research and development focus of the manufacturers is still to improve durability and stability.

Shenzhen Huien Electronics Co., Ltd. said it plans to increase the luminous efficiency of 60lm/W and 1WLED by 10%. The company is also working to reduce the 10,000-hour light attenuation to less than 10%. Huien Electronics has started to produce low-light-attenuation LED lamp samples, which can maintain 94% illumination after 11,420 hours. It adopts a new high-power LED developed jointly with German partners, which is RoHS compliant and passed. CE verification.

Shenzhen Beijing Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd. is working hard to increase the luminous efficiency from 60lm/W to 70lm/W, extending the working life to 50,000 hours. Bejing Optoelectronics produces patented LED strips in an IP65 package that withstands harsh temperature conditions. These strips are equipped with red, green and blue LEDs that can be easily split into three rows and individually controlled to achieve a variety of color change sequences.

Shenzhen Rishang Optoelectronics Co., Ltd. is improving the durability and performance stability of its products, and continuously improving conversion efficiency and reducing heat radiation.
