Samsung predicts that 50% of mobile phones will use OLED screens after five years

According to Samsung Mobile Display, with the growth of smartphones and touch screen devices, OLED screens will gradually become the preferred screen for high-end devices in these devices. According to Samsung's forecast, the smartphone market will climb from 170 million units in 2009 to 500 million units in 2012.

The company said that although the OLED display market is growing slowly, after 5 years, OLED screens will still occupy 50% of mobile phones, 20% of digital cameras and 30% of mobile game consoles. If mobile phone sales reach 1 billion units in 2013, then 500 million of them will use OLED displays.

Samsung said that OLED panels are even more sturdy and offer higher quality images than LED liquid crystal displays and plasma panels. However, the biggest drawback of OLED screens is that they have a lower life span and are more expensive.
