Samsung rules DRAM memory market

Although the leading edge in the US LCD TV market was eroded, Samsung’s investment in advanced manufacturing processes for DRAM pellets paid off. According to the second quarter DRAM market statistics report released by market research company iSuppli, Samsung continued to expand its own market share while maintaining its DRAM market leader position.

The global DRAM market revenue in the second quarter was US$10.8 billion, up 14.4% from the US$9.4 billion in the first quarter; DRAM shipments increased by nearly 5% in a bit-by-bit calculation and the average price increased by 9%.

Samsung’s DRAM revenue for the quarter was US$3.8 billion, an increase of 24.3% compared with US$3.1 billion in the previous quarter, and was the fastest among the top five DRAM suppliers. Samsung's DRAM market share in the quarter was 35.4%, which continued to rise on the basis of 32.6% in the previous quarter.

Samsung produced a total of 1.2 billion 1Gb DRAM granules in the second quarter, which is a 13% increase from the 1.1 billion mountains in the previous quarter. The average price of its DRAM granules is 3.13 US dollars, which is higher than the industry average price of 3.03 US dollars.

The second fastest growth rate was Elpida, which increased revenue by 17.7% to US$1.9 billion in the quarter. iSuppli believes that Elpida will benefit mainly from its 8% increase in product growth over the average growth rate of the industry.

However, there was a rise and fall, and the market share of Micron fell to 13.3% in the quarter. The revenue growth rate was also the lowest among the top five suppliers. Micron’s revenue for the quarter was US$1.43 billion, an increase of 4.1% from the US$1.38 billion in the first quarter.

Waveguide Filter is an electronic filter that is constructed with waveguidetechnology. Waveguides are hollow metal tubes inside which an electromagnetic wave may be transmitted. Filters are devices used to allow signals at some frequencies to pass (the passband), while others are rejected (the stopband). Filters are a basic component of electronic engineeringdesigns and have numerous applications. These include selection of signalsand limitation of noise. Waveguide filters are most useful in the microwaveband of frequencies, where they are a convenient size and have low loss. Examples of microwave filter use are found in satellite communications, telephone networks, and television broadcasting.
