Sandy Bridge Brings New Share to Intel

Market research firm IHS iSuppli today released a report saying that due to the recovery of the PC market and the strong shipment of Sandy Bridge processors, Intel further consolidated its leading position in the global microprocessor market in the second quarter of this year.

In terms of revenue, in the second quarter of this year, Intel's microprocessor market share was 81.8%, an increase of 1.1 percentage points year-on-year. Accordingly, AMD lost 1.1 percentage points, which is currently 10.4%, and the two companies totaled 92.2%. Note: The microprocessors mentioned here include x86, RISC, and other general-purpose processors, not limited to the x86 PC market.

After further shrinking in the first three months, the global PC market began to grow in the second quarter of this year, with total shipments reaching 85.6 million units, an increase of 3.7% compared to 82.6 million units in the same period of last year, driving global microprocessor sales. Revenue increased by 10% from $9.8 billion to $10.8 billion.

Enterprise IT departments have made great contributions because of the need for hardware replacement. Consumer PCs are still weak due to the impact of tablet computers and the uncertainty of the economic situation. This has benefited Intel, which has the largest share of corporate income.

The production of the Sandy Bridge family of processors is rapidly increasing, helping Intel to further capture the market. Intel even claimed that this is the fastest time in the history of the company.

In fact, AMD's ring performance was not bad. Its share increased by 0.3%, and Intel lost 0.7% compared to the first quarter. The share of the two parties in the first quarter was 10.1% and 82.6% respectively.

AMD's sequential growth comes from the Fusion APU processor, which not only improves computing performance, but also brings mainstream performance of DX11 integrated graphics.
