Mobile phone fingerprint recognition does not secure the ratio of fingerprint recognition to 20% to unlock

Fingerprint boot Fingerprint mobile payment ...... For many mobile phone users, these features have become an essential part of daily life. However, recent findings reveal a serious security flaw in fingerprint recognition systems. A company in Suzhou reported that mobile phone fingerprint unlocking can be easily bypassed using just a piece of transparent tape and a conductive pen. In seconds, someone could unlock a phone or even make payments without the owner's permission. How does this work? Let’s break it down. Step 1: Take a piece of transparent tape and a conductive pen. Use the pen to draw a pattern on the tape. Step 2: Align the pattern with the phone’s fingerprint sensor and stick the tape onto the device. Step 3: Press your thumb on the sensor to unlock the phone. Repeat this process three times to allow the system to learn the new pattern. Step 4: Then, try using another finger—such as your index finger. Surprisingly, the phone will unlock. Even an orange peel can now be used to access the device. This vulnerability is alarming because it shows that the phone’s software can mistakenly recognize a pattern drawn by a conductive pen as a real fingerprint. Once the system learns this fake pattern, it can unlock the phone using any finger or object that matches the pattern. Experts warn that this method works across all major smartphone brands, leaving users vulnerable to privacy breaches and financial fraud. If your phone uses fingerprint payment, hackers could potentially access your WeChat or Alipay accounts. So why is this possible? The issue lies in how fingerprint recognition systems operate. When you first enroll your fingerprint, the phone stores a digital representation of it. Each time you scan, the system compares the new image with the stored one. However, the system doesn’t require a perfect match—it only needs about 20% similarity to unlock the device. Researchers suggest that this low threshold improves user convenience but compromises security. It’s unclear whether this is a design choice or a flaw in the software. Either way, it leaves room for exploitation. To stay safe, always keep your phone within sight and avoid letting others handle it. If you notice any strange film or pattern on your fingerprint sensor, remove it immediately and re-enroll your fingerprint. Stay alert and protect your personal data. Fingerprint security isn’t as foolproof as it seems.
