According to research firm LEDinside, the total revenue of global LED packaging plants in 2009 reached 8.05 billion US dollars, up 5% compared with 2008. Among the most striking developments, Samsung LED supported the Samsung Group, and its revenue ranking rose from 10 in 2008 to 4th in 2009, making it the fastest growing LED manufacturer in the world.
According to the observations of individual manufacturers, the LED suppliers who cut into the large-size backlight market earlier, the revenues have grown against the financial tsunami, such as South Korea's Samsung LED, Seoul Semiconductor, and Japanese manufacturer Toyota Synthetic. In terms of revenue ranking, in 2009, Nichia was still ranked first in the world. Followed by traditional LED manufacturers such as OSRAM Opto. and CREE, Taiwanese manufacturers Guangbao and Yiguang are also in the top 10.
Although the industry was affected by the financial turmoil in the first half of 2009, most manufacturers' revenues generally showed a sharp decline. However, after Q2 2009, large-size backlight demand came out, driving the LED industry to quickly recover, making most LED manufacturers' revenue last year and 2008. The year is flat or higher.
From the perspective of competition in the region, LEDinside said that the trend of the industry's major competitor Evergrande is shaped. Without the support of the group, or the manufacturers with no special competitive advantages in cost and technology, it is not easy to survive in the supply chain. In addition, Korean manufacturers have the world's largest panel production capacity and brand estuary, so it will be the biggest threat to global LED manufacturers.
If you look at the difference, the LEDinside said that Japan's global output is still the highest, Taiwanese manufacturers ranked second with 17% market share. South Korea’s market share rose from 9% in 2008 to 15% in 2009, ranking third in the world.
