Developed the world's largest 200-inch naked-eye 3D technology

Japan’s ICT Research Agency issued a press release on the 25th that the agency’s researchers have successfully developed the world’s largest naked-eye 3D display with 200 inches.

With a screen height of about 2.5 meters and a width of about 4.5 meters, the monitor uses 64 rear projection devices to display full-HD images of 1920 pixels horizontally and 1080 pixels vertically.

The naked-eye 3D technology relies on multiple projection devices to project different pictures at the same time and enter the left and right eyes of the audience. This technology that separates the two-eye viewable images allows the viewer to see stereoscopic images without wearing special glasses, but as the size of the screen becomes larger, the quality of the images will decrease.

According to the communique, one of the major causes of deteriorating image quality is the streak-like image noise generated between parallax images. This amount of image noise can be affected by differences in brightness and color between parallax images. As a solution, researchers at the ICT Research Institute have succeeded in reducing streak-like image noise by enabling each projection device to accurately adjust the brightness distribution and color balance of the projected image.

The communiqué said that this 200-inch display can display large-size stereoscopic images such as vehicles that are generally large in size, and can be used in industrial design, electronic advertisements, and exhibition halls of vehicles and the like.
