Apple ion wind cooling technology is expected to replace traditional mechanical fans

The US Patent and Trademark Office announced on Tuesday a patent for Apple. The patent is mainly a heat dissipation system that can blow out ion wind or ionized air from an electronic device and control its blowing path through the built electromagnetic field. The cooled position provides a dynamically adjustable cooling method.

Apple U.S. Patent No. 8,305,728, entitled "Method and Apparatus for Cooling Electronic Devices," describes a technique for controlling the direction and path of ion wind blowing in an electronic device by a magnetic field. The main contemporary heat-dissipation technique is the flow of air by a mechanical fan, which is then sent out in a predetermined path inside the computer, many of which use a passive heat exchanger and are finally discharged through the vent.

Apple's cooling system uses an ion wind generator based on a solid-state air mover that performs corona discharge, discharges electricity alongside the live conductor, and ionizes the surrounding air. The entire system consists of a corona electrode, an electron collector, and a high voltage power supply. After the voltage is applied to the click, the electric field is generated, and the surrounding air particles are charged and in an ionized state. The electric field propels the charged particles to the collector, repelling each other with other neutral particles, creating a large amount of air flow.
