In the first half of 2013, the scale of air-conditioning exports increased slightly

In the first half of 2013, the scale of air-conditioning exports increased slightly From January to June, the export volume of China's air conditioners was 32.405 million units, an increase of 3.41% year-on-year, and the export value was US$7.035 billion, a year-on-year increase of 5.57%. The growth rate of both export volume and export volume has fallen by more than 15 percentage points over the same period of 2012. The air-conditioner export situation in the second half of 2013 is even less optimistic.

"Three to three falls"

In the first half of 2013, China's air-conditioning exports to six continents of the world showed "three ups and three downs." The so-called "three ups and three downs" refers to China's growth in air-conditioning exports to Asia, South America, and Africa, and the decline in air-conditioning exports to North America, Europe, and Oceania.

As can be seen from the data, although China’s air-conditioning exports to the Asian market continued to grow, the increase has narrowed significantly. China’s growth in air-conditioning exports to Africa and South America was very strong, with an increase of more than 10%. In particular, China's air-conditioning exports to Africa have increased by 50%. This shows that the African market is in a stage of high growth and development, and the development prospects are very good. On the contrary, China’s air-conditioning exports to Europe, North America, and Oceania have all experienced negative growth to varying degrees, and there will be no major changes in the export situation in the second half of the year.

Asia is the most important market for air conditioner exports in China. China's air conditioners exported to Asia account for over 40% of China's export air-conditioning market share. Since 2007, the Asian air-conditioning market has also been affected by the world economic crisis to some extent. In 2009, China’s air-conditioner exports and exports to the Asian market all fell by at least 12 percentage points. However, in 2010, China’s exports and exports of Asian air conditioners increased by more than 50%. After 2011, Asian air-conditioning market demand has stabilized and slowed down year by year. But in more than five years, growth is the main tone of the Asian air-conditioning market.

In 2007, China's air-conditioning exports to the Asian market were only 1,349,100 units. It is expected that in 2013, this number will reach 20 times before the economic crisis. In recent years, the growth in air-conditioning exports has greatly exceeded the growth in exports. In 2007, China’s exports to the Asian market had reached 2.338 billion U.S. dollars. Even though exports in the second half of this year were unchanged from the first half of the year, the annual export amount was only three times that of 2007. It can be seen that the negative impact of the economic crisis of so many years on the Asian air-conditioning market is very small, and even in a sense, it has accelerated the development of the Asian air-conditioning market. From January to June this year, among the three major air-conditioning export markets in China, only the Asian market maintained growth. We hope that the positive growth of air-conditioning exports in Asia in the second half of the year will offset the decline in some European and American markets and ensure steady growth in China's air-conditioning exports in 2013. .

The African market has always been considered as a low-end consumer product market. Over the years, electric fans have been the main commodities for cooling off in summer in Africa. In recent years, with the development of Africa's economy, the home appliance consumer market has also shown a trend of upgrading, and consumption levels have also greatly improved. Air conditioners are increasingly welcomed and loved by consumers in the African market. In the past two years, China’s air conditioner exports to the African market have grown faster. In the first half of 2013, China’s largest exports to Africa were single-split, split-type air conditioners. Among them, the number of split-type air conditioners with a cooling capacity of no more than 4,000 kcal (1 kcal = 4.184 kJ) was 2,072,900 units, a year-on-year increase. 54.8%, the export value was 35574.64 million US dollars, an increase of 47.38%; the volume of split-type air conditioners with more than 4,000 kcal refrigeration capacity was 759,700 units, an increase of 54.67%, and the export value was 21,752.86 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 46.87%. A total of 2,829,600 units of single-split, split-type air conditioners were exported, accounting for 85.18% of the total export volume for the same period. Total exports amounted to US$573.295 million, which accounted for 79.74% of total exports during the same period. Due to the rapid growth in the number of air conditioner exports to Africa, the unit price of exports has dropped slightly from the same period of last year, with a decline of 3 to 4 percentage points. The unit price of single-split air conditioners has dropped by about 5 percentage points. The rapid expansion of demand in the African air-conditioning market has prompted manufacturers to pay more and more attention to the African market, which has brought about new changes in the air-conditioning competition landscape in Africa, and it is inevitable that air-conditioning prices will rise or fall in a certain period of time. The recent African market should be able to accept the average unit price falling from 3% to 5%. However, as the air-conditioning market in Africa continues to heat up, companies must learn from the lessons of low-price and disorderly competition in the past and promptly stop low-cost competition that disrupts the market, thus avoiding trade frictions and trade barriers.

In the first half of this year, the growth momentum of the South American market was second only to the African market. Although the growth rate was far lower than that in the African market, it also far exceeded the increase in exports from Asia.

The largest export volume to South America is also the single-cooled split-type air conditioner. Among them, the export volume of single-cooled split-type air conditioners with a cooling capacity of no more than 4,000 kcal is 2.587 million units, an increase of 35.82% over the same period of last year, and the export value is 418.6195 million US dollars. The year-on-year growth rate was 27.6%; the export volume of single-cooled split air-conditioners with a cooling capacity of more than 4,000 kcal was 769,200 units, an increase of 16.34% year-on-year, and the export volume was 235.6417 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 11.27%. The total volume of single-cooled split-type air conditioners exported was 3.3467 million units, accounting for 82.66% of the total exports of the South American market over the same period, and accounted for 17.91% of the total export volume of the global single-split split air conditioner market over the same period. Looking at two emerging development markets in Africa and South America, the single-cooled split-type air conditioners are popular, while the window-type air conditioners have undergone substantial reduction. This shows that the concept of consumption in the African and South American markets is quietly changing. On the one hand, this change indicates that with the continuous development of the economy, the home appliance market in Africa will usher in a period of rapid development. On the other hand, with the full competition in the home appliance market, product prices will continue to decline. At present, the profits of home appliances are relatively low, and the medium and low prices of high-end products have become a consensus. Africa and South America directly enjoy the dividends brought to consumers after the home appliance market is fully competitive. The development of these two markets will no longer be a gradual transition from low-end products to high-end products, and will be different from the previous home appliance market development model. With changes, the market’s starting point for consumption will be relatively high. It can be speculated that in the future markets of South America and Africa, the high-end air conditioner market will become more and more broad.

From January to June 2013, China's air conditioner exports accounted for 77.25% of the European, North American, and Asian markets, of which exports to Asia accounted for 44.68%, exports to Europe accounted for 14.15%, and exports to North America accounted for 18.42%. In the second half of 2013, this market pattern will not undergo major changes. The markets of Europe, North America and Asia are the basis for China's air-conditioning exports and the lifeline of China's air-conditioning exports.

From January to June 2013, China's air conditioner exports did not increase much, and export prices also showed a slight downward trend. Among the seven major categories of air-conditioner exports in China, the export prices of six kinds of products have declined to varying degrees. Among them, split-type single-cooled air-conditioners have the largest decline in the unit price of exports, with an average decrease of more than 3%, and single-cooled split-type air-conditioners with a cooling capacity of no more than 4,000 kcal. The unit price of exports has fallen by more than 5%. In split-type air-conditioning, the price of large-capacity air conditioners fell by about 3%, and the price of air conditioners with smaller air-conditioning capacity picked up slightly. It can be seen that the decline in the current round of air-conditioning prices is closely related to the decline in the price of split-type air conditioners.

From the analysis of the six continents markets in the world, the average unit prices of exports in Africa, South America, and Asia have dropped, and Africa has fallen the most, followed by South America and Asia. The average unit price declines in the three regions were 3.78%, 1.79%, and 1.65%, respectively. After comparative analysis, we concluded that in the first half of this year, in which market the export volume of air conditioners grew, the market price for export was declining, and the larger the market growth, the more the average export unit price fell. This year's exports to North America, Europe and Oceania are decreasing, but the average unit prices for the three regions have increased by 5.29%, 12.77% and 9.4% respectively. Although the volume of exports decreased, the profits of enterprises did not decrease simultaneously. At the same time, the probability of triggering trade friction also declined. Therefore, the reduction in export volume is not all negative in a certain sense. Chinese companies should use this time to study the market, adjust the product structure, and develop new products to ensure the healthy and stable development of the market.

Relative concentration of exporting countries

Air conditioners exported from China to Asia are mainly concentrated in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, India, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates; air conditioners exported to Europe are mainly concentrated in Russia, Italy, Spain, Greece, and Ukraine; air conditioners exported to North America are mainly concentrated. In the U.S. Exports to the above countries accounted for more than 60% of China's total air-conditioning exports.

From January to June 2013, China exported air conditioners to 197 countries and regions. There are 17 countries and regions with exports exceeding US$100 million. Among them, the United States and Japan are the two major markets for air conditioner exports in China. In the first half of this year, China’s exports to the United States and Japan exceeded US$1 billion. It is worth mentioning that both the volume of exports and exports to the United States are leading and firmly occupy the first place in the rankings. From January to June, China's air-conditioning exports to the United States accounted for 26.85% of the country's total air-conditioning exports, and exports accounted for 17.04% of the country's total air-conditioning exports. From January to June 2013, China's air conditioner exports to Japan were different from those in the United States. From the quantitative point of view, although the volume of exports to Japan is less than half of the volume of exports to the United States, the volume of exports to Japan over the same period reached 1.007 billion U.S. dollars. Although the amount of exports also decreased by 5.89% compared with the same period of last year, the gap between exports and the United States was far less than the gap between exports.

The United States and Japan are very important markets for China's air conditioner exports. Although the U.S. and Japanese markets have their own characteristics, their market position is comparable. China's air-conditioning exports to these two countries account for about 32% of total air-conditioning exports, and exports account for more than 36% of total air-conditioning exports. The characteristics of the U.S. market is to win by volume. The Japanese market is the first to price. No matter which country is ranked third, there is a big gap between these two markets.

In the first half of this year, China’s exports to 17 countries or regions including the United States and Japan exceeded US$100 million. These countries or regions are the major markets for China's air-conditioning exports. Exports to the United States, Japan and other 17 countries or regions from January to June totaled US$5.091 billion, with an average growth rate of 21.33%, accounting for 72.37% of the total exports of air conditioners. Total exports amounted to 23,943,800 units, with an average growth rate of 20.28. %, accounting for 73.89% of total air-conditioning exports.

In addition, 51 countries or regions including Canada, Tunisia, and Greece have exported more than US$10 million and less than US$100 million. In the first half of 2013, China’s total exports to these countries or regions amounted to US$1.678 billion, with an average growth rate of 33.69%, accounting for 23.85% of total exports, and total exports amounted to 7.462 million units, with an average growth rate of 45.12%, accounting for exports. 23.02% of the total.

Window air conditioners fell significantly

window air conditioning has always been an important Chinese export models, exports accounted for about one third of the national total export of air conditioning, the main export areas are concentrated in North America and Asia. From January to June 2013, the export volume of window-type air conditioners in China was 9,884,200 units, a year-on-year decrease of 10.62%, and the export value was 1.337 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 11.94%. The global distribution of window air conditioners is roughly 73.5% in North America, 18.98% in Asia, and 7.52% in other regions. Such air conditioners are small in size, light in weight, inexpensive, and easy to install. They do not normally require professional installation at home and are popular with customers in North America. In addition, the quality and performance of such air conditioners are relatively stable and do not require secondary assembly. For many years, it has been the best-selling commodity for China's air conditioner exports. However, due to the downturn in the US air-conditioning market caused by the economic recession, the number of Chinese window-type air conditioners exported to the United States has been greatly reduced. In the United States and Japan, window-mounted air conditioners account for more than 92% of China's export market for window type air conditioners. Sales of window-type air conditioners in the United States and Japan have drastically reduced exports of similar models in China.

Brand, producing concentrated in 2013 from January to June, China's export enterprises in the air conditioning up to more than 870, of which exports more than $ 100,000 in only 268. In the first half of this year, 15 companies had air-conditioning exports exceeding US$100 million. The air-conditioner exports of Zhuhai Gree Electric Appliances Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Midea Refrigeration Equipment Co., Ltd. all exceeded US$1 billion, becoming a veritable exporter. There are also 13 companies with exports exceeding US$100 million. According to statistics, the air-conditioning export value of 15 companies, including Zhuhai Gree Electric Appliance Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Midea Refrigeration Equipment Co., Ltd., totaled 6.197 billion U.S. dollars, accounting for more than 88% of China's total air-conditioning export over the same period. These 15 companies accounted for only 2% of the total number of air-conditioning export enterprises in the same period, but the export volume exceeded 6 times of the total number of other 800 exports. This has formed the characteristics of China's air-conditioning production and exports.

China's main exporting air-conditioners are Guangdong, Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Tianjin, Shandong, Liaoning and Beijing, and other provinces, cities and autonomous regions, mainly in the Pearl River Delta and the Yangtze River Delta region. The air-conditioning export volume of the above 9 provinces and cities accounts for 99.5% of the total export volume of the country. Among them, Guangdong Province exported the most air conditioners. From January to June 2013, Guangdong exported 210.39 million air-conditioners, accounting for 64.93% of the country's total exports. The amount of exports was 4.746 billion US dollars, accounting for 67.46% of the total exports. Followed by the four provinces and cities of Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang, these four provinces and cities exported 1.993 million air-conditioners from January to June 2013, accounting for 24.67% of the country's total exports, and the export amount was 1.661 billion US dollars, accounting for the total amount of exports. 23.61% of the total.

Growth in the second half of the year is not easy The overall recovery of the world economy in 2013 will continue for some time. The downturn in the world economy has directly affected the development trend of the home appliance market. The root cause of the current sluggish world economy lies in the fact that the European debt crisis has not been effectively resolved. Although the main export market of China's air conditioners is Asia, the North American and European markets also import more than 13 million air conditioners each year in China, amounting to over US$2.3 billion, which is also an important support for the Chinese air conditioner export market. The weakness of the U.S. economy has a direct negative impact on China's air-conditioning exports. The poor economy in Europe will inevitably affect the export of Chinese air conditioners in the second half of 2013. According to the actual situation of exporting air conditioners to the United States from January to June 2013, it can be seen that in terms of China’s exports of air conditioners to the United States, four out of the six months have declined, especially in May and June. It decreased by 35% and 43%. This also indicates that the situation of US air conditioner exports in the second half of this year is not optimistic. Looking at the export situation to the United States for many years, such a drastic decline in May and June is very rare.

Although in the first half of 2013, the export situation in Europe was not severe in the US market, the second half of the year was also a crucial period for the development of the European market. It could take some time to observe whether or not it could form a reversal and change the state of decline.

In addition, it is understood that the main air-conditioning exports of major companies have not increased their orders significantly in the second half of the year. This also shows that the situation of air-conditioning exports in the second half of the year is grim. Based on the above situation, the export situation of China's air conditioners in the second half of 2013 cannot be optimistic, and the export strategy of air-conditioning companies faces greater challenges.
