In the past, when we used incandescent lamps, we only knew how many watts of bulbs we used. The bigger the wattage was, the brighter it was. this is correct. However, the wattage of a lamp actually only represents how much electricity it consumes, and does not mean that it emits much light.

This problem has become more and more important with the appearance of different types of lamps.

The appearance of fluorescent lamps poses a problem. The earliest used fluorescent lamps are the so-called fluorescent lamps. Fortunately, the most common fluorescent light is just 1.2m T8 tube. Therefore, we do not know how many watts it consumes in the end. We only know that the incandescent lamps need to save power. In fact, the power consumption of the most common fluorescent lamps also depends on what type of ballast is used. The lamp itself is 36 watts. If domestic-made ballasts are used, the power consumption of 10W is usually added, so the power consumption of the entire lamp is 46 watts. The average user may not know. After the appearance of the “energy saving lamp”, a new situation has emerged. In fact, the so-called energy-saving lamp is just a curved fine fluorescent lamp. It is called the energy-saving lamp just to beautify it with the new term “energy saving”. The most commonly used energy-saving lamp is 8W, which is equivalent to a 40-watt incandescent lamp. But the biggest drawback of energy-saving lamps is that they contain mercury, each of which can contaminate 180 tons of water and soil. However, the country has made every effort to promote “energy-saving lamps”. In Shanghai, even each household is sent by the country for a single use (I wonder if there is a big company driving behind it). Since the country’s promotion to the end of 2012, there have been hundreds of millions of dollars. Only the energy-saving lamps are scrapped and 18 billion tons of water and soil have been polluted, and this pollution cannot be removed. It's no wonder that the Internet has stated that when Chinese immigrants to the United States checked their bodies, they found that the body's mercury content exceeded 100 times. This is not surprising.

LED is a kind of luminaire that does not contain mercury and whose light efficiency is much higher than that of "energy saving lamp". It is the real energy-saving lamp. At present, a large number of wattages consumed by LEDs are used as their main indicators. This formed a big loophole. Some low-efficiency bulbs used a 1 yuan per watt indicator, while slightly better bulbs hit a 2 yuan per watt. This is a very unscientific price-performance indicator. Because some low-efficiency bulbs consume large amounts of electricity but do not generate a lot of light, they also claim to be large wattages, which sounds like a good light bulb. Actually, they are crude products. The correct indicator should be its luminous efficiency. This is the issue that this article will discuss carefully.

The unit of luminous efficiency is the number of lumens per watt, expressed in lm/W. Lumen is the unit of luminous flux. Most people may not understand what the luminous flux is. We only need to list the number of lumens of different wattage incandescent lamps.

So as long as the number of lumens emitted by a LED bulb is comparable to that of an incandescent bulb, this bulb can replace this incandescent bulb. This is one of the most acceptable methods for the people. So now the bulbs of the United States and Japan are marked on the box with a large number of words to replace the number of watts of incandescent lamps. Although this figure also uses W as a unit, it is not the wattage consumed by LEDs.
