1, Makrolon TC8030

It is well known that LED lamps are more energy efficient than ordinary bulbs, but some of their energy needs to be dissipated as heat. Therefore, in order to ensure high brightness and long service life, LED lamps are equipped with cooling elements for heat dissipation. Based on this, Covestro has developed a thermal conductivity polycarbonate: Makrolon TC8030, an injection molded cooling element for LED lamps. According to reports, the thermal conductivity of the Makrolon TC8030 is very high, and it has both thermal conductivity and high design freedom compared with commonly used aluminum.

In exploring the technical aspects of the carbonated polyester TC8030, Covestro collaborated with the University of Karelia, based in Finland, and the injection molder Vesuto. In this project, they will use the cooling element made of other polymer materials using carbonic acid polyester, and the results show the heat dissipation effectiveness of the PC material on the built-in circuit board of the LED lamp. Vestuo's general manager said that he would firmly believe that thermal conductivity PCs will open up a new generation of cooling systems that, despite their high viscosity, guarantee high quality through injection molding.

2, combined with medical and VLC technology

In order to promote the wisdom of hospitals, Taiwan Industrial Technology Institute has developed a number of innovative LED intelligent hospital lighting applications by combining LED lighting with medical and visible light communication (VLC) technology. Among them, the visible light communication medical instrument positioning system uses LED lighting combined with VLC technology as an indoor positioning system. It can grasp the position of high-order instruments at any time, allowing the nursing staff to shift the time of the instrument, from one to two hours to 20 minutes. . ITRI ​​also plans to introduce the positioning system into the emergency room application so that the hospital can keep track of the instrument, bed and personnel positioning, and use it as an indoor navigation and information guide.

In addition, the system allows medical staff to instantly grasp patient conditions and test results through smart mobile devices. In addition, LED smart hospital lighting applications include smart LED lighting for light therapy. Taking skin disease diagnosis and treatment as an example, using an LED array light source equipped with an intelligent system, the light source can be concentrated on the skin infection range, and different wavelengths of light sources can be selected for different bacteria for treatment. In addition to physical medicine, it can also treat psychological problems, that is, to improve the situation of patients with depression or insomnia by light therapy.

3. New thermal conductive resin

Philips Lighting partnered with DuPont Performance Materials to introduce a new thermal conductive resin, DuPont? Zytel? TC, can be used to manufacture LED lamp housings. According to reports, the new resin achieves DuPont? Zytel? The optimal balance of thermal conductivity and mechanical properties of the flame retardant polymer enables efficient heat dissipation of the LED lamp. DuPont? Zytel? TC is tailored to the specific needs of LED lighting equipment. Compared with traditional engineering plastics, the temperature drop can reach 3-10 °C, which can greatly extend the life of the bulb. At the same time, the new resin has a breakdown voltage of up to 7 kV and electrical insulation is sufficient to meet the requirements of relevant safety standards. In addition, it has excellent machinability to meet flexible design requirements.

According to reports, the resin will be used to manufacture the universal GU10 two-pin connector LED bulb produced by Philips. In addition to performance, it will bring some obvious advantages to Philips Lighting. For example, the use of new resins can eliminate the two complicated and expensive processes of metal die casting and overmolding that traditional methods must pass, reducing weight by up to 15%. The total cost is reduced by 30%. At the same time, it can maximize the production efficiency advantage of the injection molding process and reduce the production loss. In addition, the bulb housing made of this new resin gives the surface a white ceramic-like, soft texture, making it ideal for LED lighting.
