The team received a 50-inch PSM (plasma) TV model 50PC3DUE two days ago. When turned on, the relay made a "click" sound but didn't respond. The initial fault was suspected to be on the power board, so we opened the cover. Upon inspection, it was found that ten 10V/3300µF and five 50V/680µF capacitors on the power board were swollen to varying degrees. I tested one of them and found its capacitance to be around 153~345µF, which was clearly out of specification. I decided to replace all the faulty capacitors with nine 16V/3300µF and one 63V/680µF capacitor. After replacing them, the standby indicator light came on, and when I pressed the power button, the relay made a "click," the red light turned green, but then it immediately went back to protection mode. At that moment, I was a bit nervous and thought there might be other damaged components. So I took the board out and did a thorough visual inspection. I found that one of the two SD20N60 MOSFETs had failed. I used an old board to get a replacement part, soldered it in place, and after testing, everything worked fine. The TV ran continuously for over an hour without any issues, and it was delivered to the customer the same day.
Dear colleagues, please note that this is a common issue across all LG power boards. It's always a good idea to check the capacitors first when dealing with power-related faults. Thanks for your attention!
