Chinese domestic companies nuggets industrial robot blue ocean market

Industrial robots are key intelligent devices in the field of smart manufacturing and are often referred to as the "crown jewel" of the manufacturing industry. To move away from the label of low-end manufacturing, China has placed great emphasis on the development of industrial robots. With the arrival of the "artificial intelligence" era, the concept of "machine-human pairing" has gradually entered all aspects of society, including industries such as commerce, healthcare, education, and finance. [Image: A visual representation of industrial robots in a modern factory setting] The emergence of the AI era has opened up new opportunities for native companies in the industrial robot market, creating a vast blue ocean for growth. According to a recent report by the China Robotics Industry Alliance, the scope of domestic industrial robots has continued to expand this year, serving 37 categories of the national economy and over 100 industries. This highlights the deep integration of robots into the manufacturing sector. In recent years, with the continuous advancement of concepts like Industry 4.0 and "Made in China 2025," China's industrial robot industry has experienced significant growth. According to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, industrial robot production in China reached 104,800 units from January to October this year, marking a 68.9% year-on-year increase. This rapid growth has kept China as the world’s largest industrial robot application market and one of the fastest-growing markets globally. Industry experts predict that China's industrial robot output will exceed 120,000 units this year, accounting for approximately one-third of global production. Currently, several robot industrial clusters have emerged across China. These include the Bohai Sea cluster centered around Shenyang Xinsong, the Yangtze River Delta cluster represented by various foreign brands in Shanghai, and the Hefei-based He'anshan cluster with Wuhu Eft as a key player. In the Pearl River Delta, Guangzhou CNC and Dongguan Kaifan represent major robot industrial agglomerations. Other regions, such as Chongqing Liangjiang New District and cities like Wuhan, Changsha, and Nanchang, are also developing emerging robot clusters. Many regions in China have introduced supportive policies to assist enterprises in technological transformation. For example, at the end of 2015, Fujian Province launched initiatives focusing on seven key areas, including promoting advanced production capacity, expanding output, increasing efficiency, and accelerating intelligent upgrades. The province also introduced 18 financial support measures, including subsidies for "machine replacement" projects, with annual funding reaching 900 million yuan. For the robotics industry, more than 20 provinces and cities, including Shanghai, Anhui, Guangzhou, and Shenyang, have identified robots as a key industry. Over 40 robot industrial parks are either built or under construction, with more than 800 companies operating in the sector. Robots have become one of the most promising and dynamic industries worldwide. It is important to note that while production capacity is increasing, it is equally crucial to drive market demand. As local robot manufacturers boost their output, international brands are also expanding their presence in China. If the market fails to absorb excess production, it could lead to serious challenges for the Chinese industrial robot industry. The real value of increased capacity lies in reducing component costs and fostering the development of indigenous robots and components. It is vital to avoid the risk of excessive capacity stifling the industry at an early stage. In conclusion, for Chinese companies to succeed in the industrial robot sector, they must first reduce procurement costs and then gradually move beyond the "processing" role to invest in core technologies, building sustainable competitive advantages. As noted by Academician Cai Hexuan from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, with more companies entering the robotics field, improving standards, enhancing testing and certification, strengthening social collaboration, and ensuring a fair and regulated market have become top priorities.
