Chinese domestic companies nuggets industrial robot blue ocean market

Industrial robots are key intelligent devices in the field of smart manufacturing and are often referred to as "the crown jewel of the manufacturing industry." To move away from the label of low-end manufacturing, China has placed great emphasis on the development of industrial robotics. With the rise of the "artificial intelligence" era, "machine-human pairing" is gradually making its way into all areas of society, spanning industries such as commerce, healthcare, education, and finance. The arrival of the AI era has opened up new opportunities for native companies in the industrial robot market, creating a vast blue ocean for growth. According to a recent report by the China Robotics Industry Alliance, the scope of domestic industrial robots has continued to expand this year, serving 37 sectors of the national economy and over 100 industries. This indicates that robots are deeply integrated into the manufacturing sector. In recent years, with the advancement of concepts like Industry 4.0 and China Manufacturing 2025, the Chinese industrial robot industry has seen significant progress. According to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics, China produced 104,800 industrial robots between January and October this year, representing a 68.9% year-on-year increase. The country has long been the world's largest market for industrial robots and one of the fastest-growing markets globally. Industry experts predict that China’s industrial robot output will surpass 120,000 units this year, accounting for about one-third of global production. Currently, several regional robot industrial clusters have emerged across China. These include the Bohai Sea cluster centered around Shenyang Xinsong, the Yangtze River Delta cluster dominated by foreign brands in Shanghai, the Hefei-based Anhui cluster represented by Wuhu Eft, the Pearl River Delta cluster featuring Guangzhou CNC and Dongguan Kaifan, the Chongqing Liangjiang New District cluster in the west, and emerging central clusters in cities like Wuhan, Changsha, and Nanchang. Many regions in China have introduced supportive policies to assist enterprises in technological upgrades. For example, Fujian Province launched specific plans at the end of 2015, focusing on seven areas such as promoting advanced production capacity, expanding output, increasing efficiency, and advancing enterprise intelligence. They proposed 18 financial support measures, including subsidies for "machine replacement," and allocated 900 million yuan annually for these initiatives. For the robotics industry, more than 20 provinces and cities, including Shanghai, Anhui, Guangzhou, and Shenyang, have identified robotics as a key industry. Over 40 robot industrial parks are either built or under construction, with more than 800 companies operating in the sector. Robots are undoubtedly one of the most dynamic and promising industries worldwide. It is important to note that while production capacity is growing, market demand must also be guided. As local robot production increases, international brands are also expanding their presence in China. If the market cannot absorb excess capacity quickly, it could become a challenge for the Chinese industrial robot industry. The real goal of increasing capacity is to lower the cost of components and promote the development of domestic robots and parts, rather than allowing excess capacity to stifle the industry at an early stage. In summary, for Chinese local companies to succeed in the industrial robot field, they must first reduce procurement costs. Then, they should move beyond the "processing" role and focus on developing core technologies to build competitive advantages. As noted by Academician Cai Hexuan from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, with more companies entering the robotics sector, improving standards, enhancing testing and certification, strengthening social collaboration, and ensuring a fair and regulated market have become top priorities.
