On January 3 and 4, 2018, the National Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Working Conference was held in Beijing. This important meeting aimed to review the achievements of 2017, analyze the current situation, and outline the strategic plans for press, radio, and television work in 2018. The conference brought together key officials and leaders from across the industry to discuss future directions and challenges. Deputy Minister of the Central Propaganda Department, Nie Chenshui, who also serves as Director of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Director of the National Copyright Administration, delivered a speech on behalf of the Party Group. Other senior officials, including Tian Jin, Tong Gang, Zhou Huilin, Zhang Hongsen, Wang Gengnian, and Yan Xiaoming, attended the event. Tian Jin presided over the meeting and delivered a closing address that emphasized the importance of unity and direction moving forward. Reflecting on the work of 2017, Nie Chenshui highlighted the progress made in various areas, such as the creation of high-quality content, the development of integrated media, and the improvement of international communication capabilities. He noted that the industry had successfully implemented the key tasks set by the 19th Party Congress, leading to new achievements and a more dynamic environment. Nie stressed the need to remain committed to the correct political and public opinion orientation, ensuring that all efforts align with the goals of serving the people and promoting national values. He called for continued innovation, high-quality development, and the enhancement of industry vitality to meet the growing demands of society. In terms of 2018 strategies, Nie outlined five key priorities. First, he emphasized deepening the study and promotion of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, ensuring its widespread understanding and application. Second, he called for the production of high-quality cultural works that enrich the spiritual lives of the public. Third, he urged the acceleration of industry upgrades through technological innovation and better integration of digital tools. Fourth, he highlighted the importance of strengthening management and maintaining ideological control. Finally, he focused on enhancing international communication, promoting China's voice globally, and expanding the influence of Chinese culture through improved storytelling and international platforms. These measures aim to ensure the sustained growth and global competitiveness of China’s media and cultural sectors.
