LCD TV prices fell 22% on Black Friday
According to iSuppli's preliminary estimates, during the week of Black Friday, the price of LCD TVs of US retailers decreased by an average of 22% over the previous period, driving sales up 6% over the same period last year.
The US retailer ’s ability to engage in Black Friday promotions for LCD TVs as usual this year is a key factor driving sales year-on-year growth, although some experts have not previously been optimistic about this year ’s Black Friday.
Mainly due to the preferential prices offered on and before Black Friday, the fourth quarter is usually the strongest period of the year in the US LCD TV market. It is estimated that 28.7% of LCD TV shipments in the United States and Canada in 2009 are expected to occur in the fourth quarter. iSuppli predicts that LCD TV shipments in the US and Canada will increase by 15.3% in the fourth quarter of 2009 compared with the same period in 2008.
According to preliminary estimates, sales of LCD TVs in the United States on Black Friday in 2009 increased only a few percentage points from the same period in 2008. The largest drop in average prices was for 19-inch LCD TVs, which fell by 36.8%, followed by 26-inch TVs that fell by 34.9%. The average Black Friday promotional price for a 40-inch LCD TV in the United States fell to $ 577, a 23.3% drop from the $ 752 before the incident.
The price of large-size LCD TVs fell more moderately, with 42 inches down by 7.3% and 46 inches down by 7.2%.
