Industrial integration is difficult for smart home "virtual" fire too prosperous

From the strong rise in May this year, the smart home sector has become the new darling of the capital market, with a gain of 46%. But behind a fiery, institutional investors' attitudes toward the smart home sector are not consistent.

“How many people need to open the air conditioner in the office at the office, and go back to cool?” Speaking of smart home, a fund manager made the above statement, “This industry looks very good, but it is not easy to promote.” Currently, he does not hold stocks in the smart home sector.

Not only some fund managers, but even some brokerage researchers who have been tracking this sector for a long time, the evaluation of the smart home sector is also "virtual".

"There are a lot of smart homes that can only be regarded as smart devices." A computer industry researcher said, "And some people who want to do real smart homes can't do it, such as Anjubao (300155)."

He said that for the capital market, smart homes are more of a "professional space." "At present, smart homes are still in the early stages of development. It is just that some of the capital gambling sectors have entered the inflection point of the rapid growth period from the early stage of development. However, according to our observations, this turning point has not yet appeared."

Although every company involved in smart homes hopes to occupy the biggest part of the chain of interest in growth, becoming a standard setter and integrator, but domestic companies are still generally lacking sufficient appeal.

"I think it is most likely to integrate various companies and set standards, or Apple. It is not excluded that domestic enterprises will eventually work for Apple," said the computer researcher.

Smart Home Smart Home still remain

sector is currently defined in the capital markets is very broad in concept, for example, there are around the industrial layout LED chips, packaging and lighting drive of Silan; Apple promising to provide inertial sensors Such products, manufacturing of electronic components in Suzhou Gushu; there are also subsidiaries in the development of HVAC energy-saving, water-saving and environmentally friendly products.

According to Anjubao's answer to the smart home model in the July 4 investor relations event, China currently has three main models. The first one is based on Haier. It uses the U-home system as a platform, and uses a combination of wired and wireless networks to connect all devices to the network through information sensing devices. The second is based on Lenovo. The IGRS protocol controls the information appliances through the top cover, and is based on network multimedia information. The third type is the original manufacturer engaged in building intercom, through the security building intercom to reach thousands of households, and establish contact with the property company.

At the same time, Anjubao said: "At present, the model of smart home in China is still immature and is still being adjusted, mainly based on customer needs."

“The concept of smart home is particularly large.” The computer industry researcher said, “From a computer perspective, it is related to household appliances and intelligent buildings. See how you say it.”

In fact, he said that the intelligence produced by many companies is a smart device, not a smart home. “A lot of products can only be used without interoperability with other devices in the home.”

“Smart home is a concept.” A fund researcher told reporters: “Some products that are known as smart homes have been sold in the market. I tried it and felt no. I don’t think it’s 1+1 (one feature plus Another feature)?"

He gave an example: "For example, I bought a panel and it has two functions. First, it is a panel. Second, it can also heat. For another example, I buy a shoe bench, which adds a Bluetooth, plus There is a sound. What is the point? For example, the refrigerator can watch TV, and the shower can listen to music while taking a bath, but it is just a value-added service."

Consolidation problem "Compared with traditional home, smart home is a consumption upgrade. With the improvement of residents' demand, there are both growth and new demand. At present, this piece is still an emerging industry, there is still no high proportion, or the sunrise industry Yang Delong, chief strategy analyst and fund manager of Southern Fund, told reporters.

The “sunrise industry” means that the industry is also facing various obstacles. The biggest one is the problem of integration.

“If there is no ability to integrate the entire industry chain, this industry is a primary industry.” The fund researcher said, “Even if you have the need for consumption upgrades, such as buying a shower that can listen to music, it’s just how many products you can sell. What is the impact on the company's net profit, not a real smart home."

“From the perspective of the industry, smart homes have long been envisioned. For example, Anjubao started in 2011, Haier started in 2011 and around 2012, and Lenovo started to have solutions around 2012. But this industry is still Very immature," said the computer industry researcher. "The biggest problem in this industry is that there is no universal communication protocol, unlike mobile phones that have 3G and WIFI."

He continued to explain: "Haier's own products can be interconnected, but few people will be loyal to all products using Haier, Lenovo is also the same. There is no integrated system, go home to a bunch of remote control. Anjubao I want to use infrared rays, but I need to modify many home appliances with infrared rays. Plus, the equipment is relatively large and takes up space. Home appliances companies don’t buy them, and consumers don’t buy them. Unless they are true enthusiasts, they won’t be used.”

According to the performance report of Anjubao in the first half of this year, Anjubao sold 14,200 sets of smart home systems in the first half of the year, achieving sales income of 12.80 million yuan, an increase of 10.61% over the same period of last year.

In fact, domestic companies are not without intentions and plans for integration.

On September 19th, Qingdao Haier issued a notice saying: “In order to promote the transformation of the company's business to the interactive platform of smart home appliances and smart homes, and promote the company's smart family strategy, the company intends to use industry funds to expand opportunities, apply leverage, diversify risks and professionalism. Management, openly introduce more resources and partners, promote entrepreneurial innovation, build a smart family ecosystem, and further enhance the company's competitiveness."

Therefore, Qingdao Haier intends to use its own capital of 202 million yuan to establish a smart family venture capital industry fund with Haier Saifu and the company's related party Haier Venture Capital.

According to the report of the first half of this year, Qingdao Haier's smart home brand is U-home (a unified brand of smart home appliances, smart home systems and smart living services provided by Haier with U+ operating system as its technical support framework). In the report, Qingdao Haier also mentioned the resources of the polymer industry chain and promoted the strategy of the smart life ecosystem.

Working for Apple?

“In fact, every enterprise that participates in smart homes wants to be an integrator and wants to make the industry chain work.” The computer industry researcher said, “But the interests of the entire industry chain have not been coordinated. After all, who can If the integration is successful, whoever can get the most benefit. But what other people can do with you?"

He believes that the company with the greatest potential for integration success is still Apple.

In September of this year, Apple Apple Watch released (expected to be listed early next year), according to Apple CEO Cook, in addition to Apple TV, Apple Watch can also "control other things." At the same time, Apple Watch supports Homekit, which controls the connected devices in the user's home. This means that Apple Watch may become the control center for smart homes in the Apple system.

"Although many users also care about the price/performance ratio, the user experience is still the most important. If the smart home does not solve the problem of hardware interconnection and open platform, the user experience will not be good." The computer industry researcher said, "and to integrate these It is necessary for a company with strong integration capabilities to emerge. It must be acknowledged that Apple has a certain guiding role in global consumer demand, and its integration capability is very strong. If it cooperates with some home appliance companies, such as Gree, Panasonic, etc., other small Home appliance companies will also run over by themselves."

He believes that Apple has the greatest potential for integration success, and other companies such as Samsung, Xiaomi and even Anjubao still lack sufficient appeal.

But if Apple really succeeds in taking the lead and integrating the smart home industry chain, it will get the most benefit. This means that most of the domestic companies known as "smart homes" may eventually only work for Apple.

According to the 2013 China Smart Home Industry Research Report released by the International Association for the Promotion of Physical Affairs, the growth rate of China's smart home market will continue to increase in the next three years, and is expected to reach 29.17% by 2016. At the same time, market demand will usher in a period of rapid growth, and it is predicted that the market size of China's smart home industry will reach 8 billion yuan in 2017.

In the industry from the initial stage to the growth stage, there are bound to be numerous opportunities to emerge, and many events are stimulating.

In the end, who can dominate?
