PCB board prices again! Who is the most stressed in the LED industry?

At the start of July, several companies including Shandong Jinbao, Jianye, Mingkang, Weilibang, and Jinan Guoji issued notices of price hikes for items like copper foil and copper-clad laminates. Copper foil saw a price increase of around 1,000 to 2,000 yuan per ton, while cardboard experienced a 10% hike. Insulating glass fiber CCLs saw an increase of 5 yuan per sheet. Recently, PCB firms such as Fujian Mulinsen Lighting, Dongcheng Hongye, Morgan Electronics, and Haile Electronics announced their own price increase notices, with the rise averaging around 10%. Rising costs of materials like sheet metal, labor, and chemicals were cited as the primary drivers behind this increase. Additionally, changes in supply and demand played a significant role, particularly due to the growing demand for electronic products and the increasing popularity of multilayer PCBs in the downstream LED market. Some LED components, like PCB boards and boxes, face significant pollution during production, failing to meet national environmental standards. This necessitated upgrades and corrections, adding to the cost of these components. The price hikes have been creeping up subtly. Last year, some components began raising prices, and the government has been pushing supply-side reforms to boost industrial profitability. This indicates that price increases are likely to persist, which is concerning for end-users. There might also be price increases in driver ICs. Industry sources report a tight supply of wafers, driven by strong market demand and constant pressure from raw material costs. As touch devices and artificial intelligence gain traction, the demand for wafers is expected to rise further. Producing new equipment takes six months from order to delivery, and building a new facility takes 3 to 5 years before production begins. Expanding production could help address the supply gap, but it won't solve the immediate imbalance. Insiders predict that the current supply-demand imbalance will continue until next year, meaning price hikes will persist in the short term. OSRAM recently acquired a 25.1% stake in Canadian laser radar company LeddarTech, strengthening its position in autonomous driving. OSRAM has previously invested tens of millions of euros in LeddarTech, whose laser radar technology is now integrated into autonomous vehicle sensors. Philips Lighting has partnered with JD's smart speaker, “DingDong,” making it a “Friend of Hue” partner. Users can now control Philips Hue lights via the DingDong app using Chinese voice commands. In 2017, China's LED filament lamp exports surged, reaching $13.36 million in January-April, a 385% increase year-on-year. Exports to Europe and the U.S. accounted for 89% of the total, growing by 449%. The "Belt and Road" initiative has also boosted exports to沿线 countries, with exports reaching $1.75 million, up 540% year-on-year. An American lighting company, Acclaim Lighting, introduced the React Panel, an interactive touch LED panel designed for surface lighting applications. Each panel has 25 pixels per inch and consumes only 12 watts of power. Guoxing Optoelectronics reported a 51.45% increase in revenue and a 62.44% rise in net profit in the first half of 2017, thanks to a strategic focus on high-tech, international markets, and production scaling.
