After welding the cylinder, it is common to encounter concave or convex defects along the weld seam. Correcting these deformations is crucial for ensuring the structural integrity and performance of the cylinder.
For the correction of concave deformation in the longitudinal seam, as shown in Figure 12-26, the process involves heating a linear area along the weld. The heated width typically ranges from 8 to 20 mm, and the temperature is raised to approximately 600°C. Once the metal is sufficiently heated, a screw or jack is used to press outward on the deformed area. This method usually corrects the concave defect effectively after two rounds of linear heating.
When the roundness of a thick-walled cylinder does not meet the required standards, the cylinder is placed on a flat platform. A short steel bar of the same size is positioned at the bottom to support it, as illustrated in Figure 12-27. An arc template is then used to check the curvature. If the curvature is too poor, linear heating is applied along the outer wall of the cylinder. Conversely, if the curvature is insufficient, heating is performed along the inner wall in the axial direction. After heating, the cylinder is allowed to cool naturally. This process can be repeated several times until the desired roundness is achieved.
These corrective methods are widely used in industrial settings to ensure that cylindrical structures maintain their shape and strength after welding. Proper execution of these techniques helps prevent future structural failures and ensures compliance with engineering specifications.
