Recently, Interbrand, a leading US brand consulting firm, released its 2017 ranking of the world's top 100 most valuable brands. Apple once again claimed the number one spot, marking the fifth year in a row that the tech giant has topped the list. This achievement highlights not only Apple’s financial strength but also its deep cultural and emotional connection with consumers worldwide.
As the most valuable brand on the planet, Apple's influence is undeniable. The iconic "Bite" logo is instantly recognizable, even to those who may not own an Apple product. But here's the catch: can you draw the Apple logo from memory? Try it yourself with a pen and see how close you get.
Some might say it's too simple, but don't be so quick to judge. A study titled “Branded in Memory†found that most people struggle to recreate the logo accurately. In fact, when asked to sketch the Apple logo, many got key details wrong.
In a survey of 156 Americans, only 20% managed to draw the logo correctly—getting the shape, the bite, and the leaf just right. The rest had various mistakes. For example, 16% drew the apple but missed the gap, while 22% included the gap but got other parts wrong. Another 25% forgot the leaf entirely, and 31% added a short handle instead of the bite mark.
Even more surprisingly, six participants incorrectly colored the logo. Some older individuals even used rainbow colors, possibly due to outdated memories of Apple's early branding from the 1980s.
This experiment reveals something fascinating: even the most familiar logos can be misremembered. It shows how much we rely on visual cues without truly paying attention. So next time you see that little apple icon, take a moment to really look at it—it might surprise you how much you didn’t notice before.
