On August 26, the first batch of over 660 kilograms of fresh vegetables from Zhongke Sanan Plant Factory was delivered to the organizing committee of the "2017 BRICS Xiamen Meeting" from its production base located at the head of Anxi Lake. Throughout the entire meeting, Zhongke Sanan supplied a total of five batches of various agricultural products, including lettuce, cruciferous vegetables, and iced vegetables, amounting to 3.16 tons. The vegetables were used in the state banquet and received positive feedback from attendees.
But how did Zhongke Sanan's healthy food stand out and become a special product for the Xiamen meeting?
A Fully Enclosed Production Environment Ensures Food Safety
Food safety is the top priority in the production of agricultural products. Vegetables supplied to leaders and VIPs must meet strict standards on pesticide residues, heavy metals, pathogenic bacteria, and nitrite levels. Zhongke Sanan's plant factory adheres to almost the same rigorous requirements as pharmaceutical workshops.
The vegetables are grown in a clean production workshop where the number of particles larger than 5 microns per cubic foot does not exceed 100,000—meeting pharmaceutical-grade standards. The plants are cultivated using liquid nutrient solutions, with water sourced from sand core filtration, activated carbon adsorption, and RO (reverse osmosis) water. All chemical ingredients in the nutrient solution meet food-grade specifications. Staff are trained professionals who ensure that no pesticides or antibiotics are used throughout the entire growing process. According to SGS testing, no pesticide residues, heavy metals, or pathogenic bacteria were detected in the vegetables, and nitrite levels were significantly lower than those found in open-field-grown produce. This strict adherence to food safety is a key reason why Zhongke Sanan's vegetables were selected for the BRICS meeting.
Controlled Environmental Production Ensures Stable Supply
The BRICS meeting took place in September, when most open-field leafy vegetables were nearing their late harvest period, leading to reduced quality and appearance. Zhongke Sanan uses LED artificial lighting to overcome seasonal limitations, enabling year-round controlled production and stable supply.
In the cultivation area, optimized light spectra, balanced nutrients, and consistent temperature and humidity create ideal growing conditions. As a result, the vegetables are fresh, tender, and uniformly green. Due to the superior environment, the growth cycle is cut in half compared to open-field farming, and yield per unit area is 70–100 times higher. During the BRICS meeting, the factory supplied 0.6 tons of fresh leafy vegetables daily, which is just one-third of its 3,000-square-meter facility’s daily capacity. This reliable supply ensured the success of the special agricultural products for the event.
Multi-Party Inspections Ensure Quality and Approval
After passing numerous certifications, audits, and inspections, the government finally approved five varieties of vegetables from Zhongke Sanan—elegant, green butterfly, Boston, Baimeiren, and iced vegetables—as official agricultural products for the 2017 BRICS meeting. A special contract was signed between the two parties.
To support the Xiamen meeting, Zhongke Sanan formed a dedicated project team consisting of R&D, production, and sales staff. They managed every aspect of the special products, from production and inspection to transportation and coordination. Daily monitoring, random sampling, and third-party testing were conducted to ensure the vegetables met all safety standards. Additionally, cooperation with the provincial agricultural department allowed for on-site sampling and verification, creating a tight and secure safety system for the event.
After more than 50 days of collaboration, Zhongke Sanan successfully entered the menu of the Xiamen meeting with its high-quality products and excellent management. It became one of the featured dishes served to world leaders and guests. According to the company’s representative, Zhongke Sanan provided 3.16 tons of fresh leafy vegetables during the meeting, making a significant contribution to the logistics support of the event.
